This is one of my favorites. It is an easy, easy card to make. And just like always, Wendy & I could not agree on the card. I liked it without the words. Wendy liked it with the words.
Which do you prefer?
The words are from the Occasion Alphabet Set. This is a set we use all the time because it has words for everything – retirement, get well, sympathy, be my friend and much more. I think we used it on 3 different cards this month alone!
We stamped it on Whisper White Card Stock and punched it out with the 1 3/4" by 7/8" Oval Punch. Every stamp in this set fits on that size Oval Punch. This is the most awesome alphabet to have because you can use it for most everything!
And then we step it up a bit by using the scalloped oval punch under neat it. We added it on top of the ribbon with dimensionals. That's kinda the end of the card, before the beginning of the card because I really like it without the words. I can then use it for anything- from Happy Birthday to Thinking of You to Get Well.
The colors we used for this card are Marina Mist Card Stock, Basic Black Card Stock and Whisper White. The Ribbon is the new Marina Mist 3/8" Striped Organdy Ribbon (129292) from the Spring Mini. The Flowers are from a stamp set called Pleasant Poppies. It is a background stamp set and if you get the clear mount version, you can cut it so you have 2 stamps – a large bunch and a small bunch of poppies. I actually did this since seems to fit cards better. And if you want to put them all together, you can just put them both on the clear mount block. Best of both worlds!
So, we embossed the Whisper White Card Stock. Be sure to use your embossing buddy first! Stamp the poppy image with VersaMark them emboss with black embossing powder. Remember! You don't want to over emboss these. As soon as the embossing powder turns shiny you move the heat tool to the next part of the card. A lot of people had trouble, especially with the stems, because they were moving the tool around randomly instead of following a plan.
The Step Down Marine Mist Card Stock was run through the Big Shot with the Lattice Embossing Folder. It adds a little bit of subtle texture to the card and pop's the background. I think using an embossing folder is the fastest, easiest way to pop a card.
We colored the flowers using markers. The flowers were colored with Marina Mist and the stems with Certainly Celery. Stampin'Up had these wonderful markers with a thick end and a thin end and we were able to use the thin end to color the stems green. If you wanted to make it more watercolor looking, purposely go outside of the lines.
We took the Whisper White Card Stock and layered it on Basic Black Card Stock. The Marina Mist Card Stock was layered on a piece of Basic Black Card Stock. The Ribbon was added and wrapped around the Basic Black step down and tied with a pretty bow and then the whole thing was attached to the Marina Mist card base.
Now, if you're Wendy, you would then add your words to complete the card.
A Beautiful Card. Simple to do but oh, so elegant and classy! This is a great card to keep on hand for those last minute… I need a card NOW moments! If you like the words, you could stamp and punch out a variety of sayings so you would have them on hand.
